Despite all this, my request fell on deaf ears and no response at all came from the medical director. Even when I cornered him on the matter a few days later, he was evasive at best.
I could hardly blame him or anyone else at the hospice however, as this medicine, though now legal, still had too much baggage attached. Who knows what big trouble this little project might bring. Between the institution's many benefactors, the state medical boards, and possibly the DEA, this can of worms was too hot to handle, even if our professional oaths and obligations demanded it.
And yet I never would have thought so many obstacles would prevent the asking of such simple questions to get such helpful answers.
